BRIOTECH
LIFE
TECHNOLOGY
The technology will save lives, organs, and quality of life.
By disrupting the basic life processes of bacteria in the biofilm
using iron starvation , the technology is effective against all
types of bacteria, including antibiotic-resistant strains and
prevents unnecessary operations.

PROBLEM
HOW COMMON ARE PJI?
It is estimated that 3,481,000
primary total knee and 572,000
primary total hip arthroplasties will
be performed annually in the US by
2030. With the increase in prosthetic
joint implantations, serious
complications of prosthetic joint
infections (PJI) of the hip and knee
is also on the rise.
(An Overview of Prosthetic Joint
Infection (PJI) Definition and
Diagnosis, By Laboratory Best
Practice blog Jasper Zheng, M.D.
and Anna Maria Romanelli, Ph.D.)
The overall cumulative PJI incidence
of 1.2% (with a higher rate in knees
than in hips) is in line with the
results of other studies (Zimmerli et
al. 2004, Pulido et al. 2008)

Can be grouped into two categories,
non-invasive and invasive methods.
Non-invasive methods include (1)
photodynamic therapy in combination
with a photosenziting substance
which triggers release of ROS, (2)
sonication, and (3) alternating
magnetic fields causing local heating
of implant surface while invasive
methods include (4) direct application
to the implant causing heating, (5)
CVCES w hich utilizes two implanted
electrodes plus the implant itself to
create a cathodic voltage causing
electrostatic repulsion and creation
of ROS, and (6) plasma treatment
utilizing floating electrode dielectric
barrier discharge.

IRON STARVATION AND BRIOTECH LIFE SOLUTION
Iron Starvation:
spatial shaking
of Fe2+ ions
could disrupt
biofilm
formation or
bacterial
growth by
preventing iron
acquisition
from the
surrounding
environment.
Iron is an
essential nutrient
for bacteria.
Iron is
transported into
the bacteria via
membrane
receptors.
Continuously
spatial shacking
of the Iron atoms
in a manner that
prevents their
proper
interaction with
the receptors or
transport
proteins, can
impede the
uptake of iron by
bacteria.
Few hours

yields bacteria
inhibition.
During bacterial infection,
pathogen and host
compete for iron (Fe). The
inflammatory response
associat ed w ith infection
shifts Fe from the
circulation into storage,
resulting in hypof erremia
and iro n-deficient
erythr opoiesis, and
ultimately contributing to
the anemia of
inflammation.
Bacteria emplo y both
membrane-bound
transferrin receptors and
high-affinity iron-binding
proteins called
siderophores to acquire
Fe. Humans utilize the
iron-bind ing proteins
lactoferrin, transferrin,
and ferritin to move Fe
away from sites of
infection and into
storage. Synth esis and
action of these proteins
are regulated by

IRON STARVATION AND BRIOTECH LIFE SOLUTION
Interfering is possible through
these 3 different types of
influence, by interrupting:
•The Ferric-Siderophore
spatial correct docking
over the membrane
receptor.
•The Fe2 natural taxing
inside the receptor
•The Fe2 natural taxing
inside the cytoplasm
Fe2 and Ferric-
Siderophore
molecules are
paramagnetic,
and are attracted
to magnets
Spatially shaking
them by
alternated
magnetic field
will prevent Iron
taxing from outer
media to the
target inside the
bacteria.
Iron starvation-

as a potential
strategy to disrupt
